I think it is the caterpillar who should be thanking you.
[Wow, this thing is even uglier up close. Changge's smile doesn't falter though.]
I haven't introduce myself. My name is Li Changge. It is nice to meet you. [Bowing as well as someone who is holding a caterpillar could. Which means no putting a fist in the other palm as a greeting, but whatever. It's your fault this caterpillar is in the way, so...]
[You are so crazy. Changge moves her hand, cutting through the air horizontally.]
Now go! [But will it really be that simple? Of course not, another photographer is coming up behind Changge while she's seemingly busy with this conversation.]
[Changge is hardly going to ask someone to fight without knowing if they can.]
When I tell you to, run and don't look back.
[They just need an opening...and, ah. There's a photographer coming up to them. Manoeuvrability is more limited with another hand in hers, but she managed to pivot and plant a solid kick to that photographer's gut, causing him to fall back into the ones behind him.
[Ah. Well. Better to have that bubble broken early.]
Did you also arrive just now? [To be honest, there had been too many in the room to keep track of who was there or not.] Since no one else seems to be giving them any second thought [Except for people like them, people who didn't really belong here.] it is likely that you are right.
I'm sure they must have been well-take care of. [A teasing smile.] Perhaps they might even have been spoiled?
[Changge could never consider all the servants that worked for their family as such (her own family sometimes barely felt like one. Still, it was not such a foreign concept. There were the servants that followed marrying women into a new family, the ones that served as servants, confidant and often times friends.
'Miss'. Well.
Changge guessed, from the way everyone came dressed differently that her clothes may not fool as many people as it did back home. Added to the fact that she was naturally delicate and feminine looking. But that left her in a bit of a dilemma.
She would not have minded lying in any other circumstance, but she didn't particularly want to start this particular relationship off on a lie.]
I don't think I have ever heard a name like that, Lady Ada. [Changge makes a fist with one hand and cups it in her palm and she bows.] My name is Li Changge, it is a pleasure to meet you as well, but... [Now she looks up and this time the smile is different. She is purposefully turning up the charm so it is more bright and sweet.] ...if it is not too forward of me, may I ask you for a favour, my lady?
[ obliviously, she smiles and nods, both to the servants comment and the introduction. If Ada had been in charge, there's no doubt all the servants would have been spoiled rotten - but her father wasn't quite as sweet as she was. Still, she and her brother had done a pretty good job pampering Gil.
[Veronica opens her mouth to thank the girl when she sees another photographer coming up behind her. There was no day-old hair or old blood in her pockets. She didn't keep those things with her and hadn't bothered to for the longest time. And even then, she wasn't trained to cast magic at people.
So she does the first thing that comes to mind, which is to put herself between Changge and the photographer, shielding the both of them with her back.]
I've not been here long, but the colony was under attack mere weeks ago.
[But nothing like this. It would make it difficult to prepare if they did not know what to expect. He keeps an eye on the photographer, ready to help if necessary.]
I would appreciate it if you would show me. [Just wait till you actually get Changge in the library. The concept of a collection of books that isn't a part of a private collection, a monastery or a government library, one that is open to the public will just blow the mind of any person from the Tang Dynasty.]
My name is Li Changge. May I ask for your name as well?
[For a moment, Changge is shocked. What are you doing? What are you doing?
That is ridiculous. Never in a hundred, no, a million years, would Changge think shielding another person with your own body was a good idea when there was literally ten different ways you can do this. Changge turns and they come face to face. This girl's eyes are so very blue, do very different from her own mother's green ones not just in colour but in the way they looked right at her instead of away.
For a split second, Changge is struck dumb, but in the time it took for her to breathe out, she was notching another arrow in one smooth movement.]
Don't move.
[And that's all the warning she gives before she fires right over Veronica's shoulder. Seriously, don't move.]
[There is a dagger in Changge's hand as they run. Daggers are great for slashing at photographers that come too close.]
There is only one way to find out.
[Right before Changge picks up speed, the grip on Rika's hand changes, the hand there moving back to hold Rika's forearm instead of her hand. We're less likely to pulls something like this.]
[Despite the fact that Veronica could be difficult and stubborn, she knew when to listen. (She often just chose not to.)
She hasn't moved, feeling the breeze against her cheek as the arrow passes, a meaty sound coming from behind her as it hits the target. It's then that she turns around to see if the photographer's okay.
[Just chucking it would probably be bad form. After thinking about it, Changge just walked off to put it somewhere elevated so it won't be stepped or sat on.]
What do you think of the explanation we were given?
