[You are so crazy. Changge moves her hand, cutting through the air horizontally.]
Now go! [But will it really be that simple? Of course not, another photographer is coming up behind Changge while she's seemingly busy with this conversation.]
[Veronica opens her mouth to thank the girl when she sees another photographer coming up behind her. There was no day-old hair or old blood in her pockets. She didn't keep those things with her and hadn't bothered to for the longest time. And even then, she wasn't trained to cast magic at people.
So she does the first thing that comes to mind, which is to put herself between Changge and the photographer, shielding the both of them with her back.]
[For a moment, Changge is shocked. What are you doing? What are you doing?
That is ridiculous. Never in a hundred, no, a million years, would Changge think shielding another person with your own body was a good idea when there was literally ten different ways you can do this. Changge turns and they come face to face. This girl's eyes are so very blue, do very different from her own mother's green ones not just in colour but in the way they looked right at her instead of away.
For a split second, Changge is struck dumb, but in the time it took for her to breathe out, she was notching another arrow in one smooth movement.]
Don't move.
[And that's all the warning she gives before she fires right over Veronica's shoulder. Seriously, don't move.]
[Despite the fact that Veronica could be difficult and stubborn, she knew when to listen. (She often just chose not to.)
She hasn't moved, feeling the breeze against her cheek as the arrow passes, a meaty sound coming from behind her as it hits the target. It's then that she turns around to see if the photographer's okay.
[The photographer is clutching at his arm, a thin whine of pain coming from his mouth as he scrabbles at the arrow. Veronica's expression falls as she gets dragged away. She doesn't have the strength to pull away from Changge, but she wants to.
Someone seems to already be attending to the fallen photographer but she still keeps looking until she can't see him anymore.]
Why-...You could not have used a less violent method with which to stop him?
[Veronica draws herself back on hearing that, eyes wide because she hadn't thought of it. She hadn't even thought twice about putting herself in harm's way because it had only seemed logical, to protect in whatever way possible.]
But...
But he is hurt. I did not wish for him to be hurt, as I did not wish for you to be hurt.
[They've made it past the circle of volunteers. Good. They should be safe now.
Then she lets go and turns to Veronica.]
If that was your aim, there are better ways you could have accomplished it. What did you think would happen if you had gotten hurt because you were protecting someone else?
